The Mom Spot: Tis the season of getting…

Days are getting shorter and the air is becoming cool and thin.
Trees are bare and the grass is dimming.
Children are buzzing around with excitement while parents are decorating, tidying and trimming.
Lists are being made for gift-getting…

Shopping malls are filled with Santas you can’t visit without paying while China’s big factories are preparing lead covered toys for playing.
Lists are getting bigger for gift-getting…

Neighbors are competing for the house that’s best dressed while consuming so much electricity that their wallets protest.
Lists are unmanageably large for gift-getting…

My husband and I told our children that we are not partaking in the over-commercialized, over-industrialized, lack of meaning, Santa Clause accredited Christmas this year.

We are keeping Jesus the main focus of our Christmas.

We are giving gifts, meaningful, full-of-Jesus, gifts this year.

It’s funny how the word giving has become almost like a watermark for the word getting…I’m guilty of the use of this word. I will say “I’m getting my son …” instead of saying “I’m giving my son…”.

It’s really important to me not to lose the true meaning of Christmas in our family traditions.
So this year we are giving family gifts.

Gifts that will keep giving all year-long.

Gifts that are full of Jesus through and through.

Here are some truly full of Jesus gifts that you can give your family this year from World Vision:

You can purchase a duck for a family who can benefit from hundreds of large protein-rich eggs for years to come. {$30 USD}

  Your gift of a bicycle will provide safe, speedy transportation for these eager  young students, enabling them to achieve their dreams of education — and a brighter future. {$85 USD}

In countries like Malawi, a well just 60 feet deep can bring new health and life to a community of 150 people. The well your gift helps provide will be capable of supplying more than 600 gallons of safe water a day for drinking, bathing, irrigating crops, and watering livestock. {Traditional well $2,600 USD or share of Well $75 USD}

You can sponsor a child. Your monthly sponsorship will provide one special child — and others in his or her community — with life-changing basics like food, water, healthcare, education, spiritual nurture, and more. {$35 USD per month}

Gifts like these can make a fantastic addition to any family’s Christmas traditions. There are so many more organizations like World Vision to choose from.

Will you be giving or getting this year for Christmas?

“For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in”; Matthew 25:35

“The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’Matthew 25:40
