Are you ready for some football Hampton Roads?? The NFL may have already started their season, but the UFL will kick things off tonight, with our home team, the VA Destroyers, heading to Nevada to play the Las Vegas Locomotives next week. Our home opener will take place on October 5 against the Sacramento Mountain Lions at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex at 7 p.m. In case you cannot make it to a game, CBS Sports Network announced this summer they will carry games twice a week, on Wednesdays and Fridays, starting today. In other Destroyer news, it was announced yesterday in a press release that head coach Marty Schottenheimer has stepped down, with younger brother Kurt Schottenheimer taking his place. Despite having big shoes to fill, and a championship title to defend, Kurt is optimistic about his new role in the organization, sharing, “While I share in my brother’s passion for the game and the satisfaction that comes from teaching the fundamentals necessary to help players perform at their best, I’m comfortable in my own shoes and my own approach in how best to get that done. I am very excited about the 2012 season ahead of us.” For more information on the Destroyers 2012 schedule and to purchase tickets, visit their official website, http://www.vadestroyersfootball.com/.
Also getting in the swing of things are the VA Destroyers cheerleaders who will offer a cheer and dance camp on September 29 for young ladies age 7-17. Camp attendees also have the option to dance with professional cheerleaders during the halftime performance. For more information on the camp, see the flyer below.
