This Saturday night, Virginia Opera’s 2012-2013 Season will open with Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers, at the Harrison Opera House in Norfolk. According to a press release, The Pearl Fishers will feature the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and is described as, ” a classic tale of forbidden love, jealousy and intrigue. The opera’s love triangle is set against an exotic, island backdrop and showcases the celebrated “Pearl Fishers Duet” for tenor and baritone, “Au fond du temple saint.” Although the production will be performed in French, English subtitles will be projected above the stage. Before every opera performance, a free 30-minute discussion will be held by Dr. Glenn “Dr. Opera” Winters.
In addition to opening night (8:00 p.m.), performances will also be held on October 3 (7:30 p.m.),October 5 (8:00 p.m.) and October 7 (2:30 p.m.).
