Virginia Opera’s 2013-2014 Season To Open With ‘Falstaff’

va opera 2013-2014 seasonFriday night, Virginia Opera’s 2013-2014 season will open with Giuseppe Verdi’s Falstaff, at the Harrison Opera House in Norfolk. According to a press releaseFalstaff will feature the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and is described as, “the story of the rotund, old, lecherous and broke Falstaff, who is one of the most endearing characters in literature.  William Shakespeare’s aging knight comes to bold and bawdy life in this effervescent Verdi gem, as his scheme to get rich by simultaneously wooing two wealthy married women backfires…badly.  In a hysterical twist, Falstaff finds himself the victim of his own tomfoolery, and at the mercy of those he tormented. But there are still a few tricks to be played, and the prince of rascality always has the last laugh!” Although the production will be performed in Italian, English subtitles will be projected above the stage. Before every opera performance, a free 30-minute discussion will be held by Dr. Glenn “Dr. Opera” Winters.

For regularly-scheduled performances in Norfolk and Richmond, students may receive $15 rush tickets. Tickets must be purchased the day of the performance through the Box Office. Discounts are intended for full-time students only and valid student identification is required.
