During the months of September and October, Busch Gardens Williamsburg welcomes families for fun fall activities during the day. But when 6 p.m. rolls around, ghosts and ghouls take over the park, transforming it into the scary annual haunt, Howl-O-Scream.
Brave guests can explore five Terror-tories, immersive themed villages full of monsters lurking behind every corner, or venture into one of the park’s seven haunted houses. This year, Busch Gardens has three new houses: Cornered, LumberHack, and, from the producer of The Blair Witch Project, Unearthed—Scarlett’s Revenge, where Busch Gardens dug too far and unearthed an ancient house of horror—along with the house’s deadly mistress, Scarlett.
Spooky dining, ghoulish shopping, and spine-chilling live shows, including Monster Stomp on Ripper Row, add to the thrills. The only place visitors can seek refuge is on the rides, which hurtle through the darkness at terrifying speeds.
Parents and guardians should consider the park’s elevated scare factor when deciding to visit Busch Gardens with young children during Howl-O-Scream.
Busch Gardens Williamsburg
In the rich tradition of the classic Italian daredevil, few men wowed the crowds like Tempesto. Busch Gardens’ newest thrill coaster Tempesto quickly launches riders through tight turns at up to 63 miles-per-hour, seemingly defying gravity as it rolls through a complete inversion 154 feet in the air. The ride features three launch experiences that send guests backward and forward and flips them upside-down, before finally propelling them through the signature loop-the-loop. Beyond these big-kid rides, Busch Gardens Williamsburg caters to youngsters with its KIDsiderate attractions, such as Land of the Dragons and Sesame Street Forest of Fun. Both are brimming with playgrounds and kid-friendly rides perfect for little ones.
