Ride Review: Battle for Eire, Busch Gardens Williamsburg
The luck of the Irish was with us as we battled for the sacred Heart of Eire during media day at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. We were able to experience the park’s newest attraction, Battle for Eire, the action virtual reality ride with state-of-the-art 360-degree virtual reality headsets.
First Impression (Theming)
The theming of the ride is great! I loved the details (lighting and props from the previous attractions housed at this location; Questor, Europe in the Air and Corkscrew Hill). I unfortunately was able to get pictures due to time constraints on my end. The pre-ride video with the lighting effects was very well done. You can see a snippet here on our Instagram page. Love the signage and logo on the front of the attraction. I didn’t get a chance to go back and take a look last night, but I am sure it looks great lit up. See Instagram pic.
The headset base has two sizes, one for adults and kids. It is very comfortable and easy to adjust via a knob in the back. The “magic lenses” are surprisingly comfortable as well, considering the bulk/size. Make sure they are connected/snapped in place correctly to prevent them from falling off as the ride moves quite a bit.
Once you secure your headset, you are magically transformed to “The Otherworld,” home to Addie, Ollie and Balor. It is a warm, beautiful and inviting setting that made me immediately want to vacation there. Who doesn’t love mountains, water, and a beautiful sunset? The 360-degree headset made it fun to look all around you to explore your settings. Make sure to look to the right to catch a gorgeous view!
The adventure starts with Addie as she journeys to retrieve the heart of Eire. As she gets closer to her goal, the evil Sluagh and Balor try to disrupt her plan! You are taken on a magical ride as you help Addie battle for the heart of Eire. Does the light beat the dark forces? Were we successful in our mission to recover the heart from the evil Balor and his minions? You will have to ride Battle for Eire for yourself APRIL 13 when it opens to find out!
The story is cute and fun, just wish it were a little longer! I loved the bright colors and think it will be a hit with the little ones! It is enough to keep the attention of teens and adults and will make a great family attraction. I look forward to riding it again to catch all the things I missed the first time!
